Pressure Assembly

The Ilford black-and-white process was chosen to strengthen the photograph’s monochrome identity. Rather than treating the image as a colour file converted into black and white, this presentation places it within a more direct photographic tradition: silver-like tonal depth, dense blacks, bright window light, visible grain, and smooth grey transitions.

The larger rectangular scale was chosen to make the industrial interior immersive. At 104.5 × 70 cm, the viewer can approach the work closely and read the machinery, labels, pipes, tubing, shadows, and grain structure, while still experiencing the image primarily as atmosphere: a dark mechanical space pressed against an overexposed exterior light.

The glossy acrylic glass gives the work a cold, sealed surface. It reinforces the contrast between the luminous window and the heavy industrial forms, making the photograph feel more physical, precise, and slightly uncanny. The frameless full-bleed presentation keeps the image uninterrupted, allowing the machinery, grain, light, and darkness to extend directly to the edge.

Aluminium rails are used for a clean wall-mounted presentation, keeping the object visually minimal and contemporary. The result is a large black-and-white industrial study with a hard, glass-like presence: immersive, tonal, mechanical, and quietly eerie.
